PingOO

Since year 1997 the CRI in Haute-Savoie develops and spreads PingOO, libre solution server (http://www.pingoo.org) in public educational institutions of the department of Haute-Savoie.

Today, the CRI maintains about 200 PingOO servers. But the needs in terms of reliability, security and availability of the client machines are more and more acute.

Motivated by both lows costs of the libre software and by the low management work implied by the administration of a machine under PingOO, all the actors of Haute-Savoie asked for a solution targeted to the client machines.

The CRI replied this question by experimenting a version of PingOO TWS (Terminal and Workstation Server). The administrators have no more admistrative work with the clients, and very few for the server.

An educational institution is experimenting now PingOO TWS. An experiment at a larger scale will begin as soon as September.
